Smaugust '22

The Smaugust challenge asks to draw one dragon per day during August. I've long wanted to participate - for some reason, despite being mainly a fantasy painter, I have almost zero dragons in my body of work - but with Inktober coming up the following month I was usually busy doing things for that. When AI became a huge thing last year I fiddled with it for a bit and created my Smaugust pieces by overpainting AI renders from different models. I am interested to see where the law debate about AI in general and generative image creation in particular leads.

There are GIFs for many of them to show what I used and how, but I think many are outdated already; if not detailing technicalities about the models, I'll make another post with the process GIFs.

While I didn't manage nearly as many daily (or should it be often?) environment sketches as the previous year, I still made some. Here are a few of my favourites. Working in bulk is beneficial in several ways; it makes one feel less unproductive when they are piling up, one can get short ideas out quickly, and on the improvement side, doing many of a kind both trains doing it well, and shows up weaknesses. Mock film posters - Descriptions

After discussing it with watchers on deviantArt, here are the film descriptions, as they were written from the perspective of the sci-fi rpg character, who is into hilarious musicals and action films: Sanguinees A zombies/vampires/werewolves musical with an amount of social entanglements worthy of any opera, and death under the full moon. The rock songs inspired by Russian choirs, and the famous costumes (most notably the holographic "nightmare" hairdo of the female lead) create the charme of this movie with a very foreseeable plot.
